Ecuador: Prime Surf & Great Waves All Seasons

Ecuador is one of the the most biodiverse and beautiful countries in the world — with equally diverse epic surfing

With over 1400 miles of coastline to choose from, there are waves for just about everyone: lefts, rights, reef breaks, beach breaks, jetties, and river mouths, to name a few. There’s plenty of seasonal swell rolling in from the Pacific, warm water year-round, and beautiful landscapes set as background scenery.

And Ecuador is surfable year round.

Ecuador High Season Surf (Dec-April)

The main surf season runs from December to April (‘high season) when the North swells arrive.  In the Northern hemisphere’s winter, storms in the Pacific Ocean generate swells.  These swells travel to the Southern Hemisphere to reach Ecuador’s coastline. Combined with offshore winds, this makes glassy conditions imminent.

Ecuador Low Season Surf (May-Nov)

From the months of May to November, there are primarily Southern swells with a dominate onshore wind, which is not ideal.  Great surf can still be found however: perfect for surfers who are over the closeouts, drop-ins, and dismal forecasts happening in other surf spots around the world at that time.
